Nicole Richie's 4 Tips for a Beautiful Backyard

The actress and designer has an envy-inducing exterior ¬ó come learn how to get the look.

We loved helping actress and designer Nicole Richie transform her gorgeous yard into a fairytale wonderland for a dinner party with friends, and after seeing these snaps from her feature on The Coveteur, we're glad to see little has changed. By incorporating textural, ethnic, and eclectic elements, Richie has ensured her space is relaxed, yet entirely chic. Here are a few of our pointers for getting the look of this California-cool backyard retreat. Nicole Richie's Lessons For a Beautiful Backyard 1. Incorporate Fun Textiles: We love the unexpected use of the Moroccan wedding blanket and coordinating pillows on Richie's lounge chairs. The fun texture is a refreshing take on outdoor décor and totally works with the other natural elements in the exterior design. Nicole Richie's Lessons For a Beautiful Backyard 2. Layer Lanterns: A mix of different lanterns in various sizes, shapes, and styles help to not only add light in the evenings, but are also great texturally, adding a dose of collected authenticity to the yard's design. Nicole Richie's Lessons For a Beautiful Backyard 3. Go Bold With Flowers and Plants: Richie's hydrangea bushes help inject a healthy dose of color and fun into her backyard landscape. Bonus: when you grow your own beautiful plants, creating arrangements, like the ones we put together for Richie's dinner party, is a snap. Nicole Richie's Lessons For a Beautiful Backyard 4. Have Fun With It: We're thrilled to see that Richie's super-cool hand-painted teepee, that our friends at Clamdiggin made for her, is still a major focal point of the yard. The over-scaled design and new take on the traditional playhouse is an awesome feature for kids and fun-loving adults alike. So what do you think?
