You'd never guess, as you walk into the lobby of The Plaza Hotel on Manhattan's Central Park, that you're actually walking into Tommy Hilfiger's basement. The fashion designer, along with wife Dee Ocleppo and their five children, purchased three seperate units on the top floors of famed hotel for $25 million in 2008. He then combined them to create a five-bedroom, five-and-a-half bath, 6,000-square-foot penthouse apartment. After more than $20 million dollars of renovations, the space went on the market last year for $80 million — and guess what? It's still looking for a buyer.
The design of the spartment emulates the old-world oppulence of the historic hotel, and includes a 35-foot-high domed turret and a private terrace overlooking the roofline of the landmark building, with a view of the rest of Manhattan beyond. Sounds pretty nice to us. But tell us: would you pay $80 million for this place, if you could?
